Trellis King was not designed in a product meeting. It was built in a garden by the man who needed it, because nothing on the shelf held a full crop through a season. He kept refining it until it was worth putting his name on, and the design is patent pending.
Why he built it

Jim Nicholas, the creator, is an avid gardener and inventor, who says the two hobbies go hand in hand because "necessity is the mother of invention!"

Jim created the system to make gardening appeal to more people, by making it easier, more productive, functional and enjoyable for everyone. That meant one connection standard instead of a shelf of mismatched cages and stakes, and pieces built to be taken apart at the end of a season rather than thrown away.
Every piece in the line is solid steel, hot dipped galvanized so it does not rust, which is what lets one frame give many years of dependable service instead of one summer. The same standard connection is what makes the system:
